Comment by Russell Dean, Residential Product Group Director, Mitsubishi Electric: “While the launch of Great British Energy marks a positive step towards decarbonising the electricity grid, the new government must make the switch to renewables more affordable. With the price of electricity in the UK still higher than that of gas (*), rebalancing the cost of electricity and gas will make switching to a heat pump more achievable for the average household. Increasing the heat pump installation rate by improving support for renewable apprenticeships will also be crucial to putting these net zero promises into action.”
