Samsung's DMV S2 is fully compatible with WindFree products

Samsung has officially launched the latest version of its Digital Variable Multi (DVM) S2 VRF range for commercial applications, following an initial announcement at its 2021 Climate Solutions Day in January.

The sixth generation of the DVM range offers seasonal energy efficiency ratio up to 7.51 and AI control capabilities designed to optimise climate conditions.

The DVM S2 range is compatible with Samsung's WindFree products and can be connected to up to 64 indoor devices, while the manufacturer says it allows for enhanced installation flexibility and serviceability.

Xavier Feys, vice president at Samsung Electronics Air Conditioner Europe, said: “Samsung aims to contribute in every way possible to global efforts towards making climate neutrality a reality in the coming decades – particularly with regards to energy consumption. We are constantly innovating and developing solutions to support the much-needed change to cleaner and greener energy, while also improving the wellbeing of those using our products.

“Our goal is to outcompete the Seasonal Energy Efficiency of our own offerings, in both cooling and heating. With our vision for seamless and intelligent innovations in the field of Climate Solutions, supported by Artificial Intelligence, we hope to help to take a collective step towards Europe’s climate goal.”

Samsung says it applied innovative technologies in the core components of the DVM S2 to achieve high energy efficiency. These include a more advanced scroll compressor with AFI (Advanced Flash Injection) technology, an enlarged heat exchanger with optimised refrigerant flow, a multi-serration fan and the enhanced power module.

Compared to the current DVM S, the heat transfer area of the heat exchanger in the DVM S2 is 36.2 per cent larger on the small platform, and 23.7 per cent on the large platform2. The multi-serration fan is said to minimise the turbulence of the air vortex, applying different serration, considering the air velocity of the edge and the inside of the blade, respectively. The hybrid path is designed to optimise the refrigerant flow corresponding to the air flow profile, and the high-efficiency Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) reduces the loss of conducted electricity.

Through active Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithm, DVM S2 ensures comfort and stability while saving energy. Active AI recognises the conditions of the installed environment, supply optimised cooling and heating performance, and real time refrigerant leakage monitoring.

AI low pressure control learns patterns of cooling operation and reaches the target temperature more rapidly which allows for energy saving. AI High Pressure Control maintains the optimal high pressure by adjusting according to the installed environment. AI Defrost Control provides the best timing for defrost, and hence comfort during heating. Additionally, DVM S2 detects refrigerant leaks and alerts users thanks to advanced algorithms.

Samsung’s advanced technology of refrigerant sub-cooling control and installation condition analysis, allows the size of the liquid pipe to be scaled down. This allows for a saving up to 28 per cent of the refrigerant amount3

The current DVM S line-up remains the same, ranging from Essential to Standard and High Efficiency, but will be replaced by the new generation models. Availability differs per market.

1. According to Eurovent 2021 technical certification rule for models AM180AXVGGH/EU, AM180AXVGGR/EU

2. Based on testing in accordance with the Eurovent testing rule, at the end of December 2020. Tested on 22.4~56kW models of the Samsung DVM S2 compared to the same capacities of another brand, using ducted type indoor units. Test results may vary depending on specific factors and use.

3. Based on Samsung’s measurements, comparing 33.6kW and 56kW models of a DVM S2 and DVM S.
