The early pioneers of ammonia refrigeration will be featured in an Institute of Refrigeration (IOR) historical TechTalk, which will be held online on 3 November.

Participants will hear about the likes of David and James Boyle, along with Francis de Coppet and John Beath, and how they revolutionised the sector with a series of notable firsts.

The talk,  Celebrating 150 years of Ammonia Compression, will be given by Dr Andy Pearson FInstR and Bernard Nagengast as part of the 123rd anniversary celebration of the founding of the Institute of Refrigeration. The talk and paper provide a thorough account of the life and times of the characters involved in the early development of ammonia refrigeration. The event also marks the 150th Anniversary of what is generally considered the first ammonia refrigeration system using vapour compression.
