Mitsubishi Electric has entered the UK refrigeration market with its ECOV R744 Series of condensing units, aimed at smaller shops, convenience stores and cold storage rooms in pubs and cafes.

The units are said to offer low noise levels, long pipe runs, a small footprint and a wide evaporating temperature range between -45ºC and -5ºC, meaning they can be used for chilling or freezing.

“Refrigeration is an essential part of modern life but with concerns about global warming, it’s important for retailers to shift towards greener natural refrigerants and energy efficient equipment,” said Declan Fernandes, Mitsubishi Electric’s Refrigeration Product Manager.

“We’ve taken our extensive experience of the Japanese refrigeration market and our decades of working in UK construction and developed one of the easiest refrigeration units to use, with high performance, low emissions and low noise.”

The ECOV refrigeration units utilise non-flammable CO₂ refrigerant (R744), with a low global warming potential (GWP) of only 1, meaning that a building’s carbon emissions are reduced compared to systems using HFC refrigerants.

Two versions of the larger model are available (ECOV-X37VA and ECOV-X55VA) which offer duties ranging from1.98kW to 16.7kW at an ambient temperature of 35ºC. A smaller unit (ECOV-X15VA) delivers duties from 0.65kW to 4.243kW at an ambient temperature of 35ºC.

“We have designed the ECOV units to be reliable, simple to install, and highly energy efficient so they can help our clients meet key CSR and net zero targets,” adds Fernandes. “The wide range of evaporating temperatures, the small footprint and really low noise levels make it ideal for small outlets.”

All ECOV units can be connected to multiple refrigerated display cabinets or cold rooms evaporators - making them suitable for smaller retail shops, convenience stores and cold storage rooms in pubs, cafes, and restaurants, along with cold chain distribution centres.

The ECOV-X37 and X55 units are equipped with a unique inverter driven scroll compressor developed by Mitsubishi Electric, multi-flow condenser and a DC inverter fan to improve energy saving performance and deliver an SEPR (Seasonal Efficiency Performance Ratio) of 2.6.

With a small footprint from just 0.57m2 and horizontal air flow structure, they are suitable for installation in small spaces. The ultra-low noise levels also make them ideal for retail and leisure outlets in areas where neighbours cannot be disturbed.

Direct Modbus connectivity allows the units to easily communicate with various monitoring systems and an innovative heat recovery port enables rejected heat to be used for minimal space heating and sanitary hot water demand in other areas of the building through the addition of a plate heat exchanger.
