Alan Kirkham to retire after 50-year career

Beijer Ref UK Commercial Director Alan Kirkham, described by colleagues as "The Godfather of Refrigeration Wholesale'', is to retire in May after an industry career spanning 50 years.

He began his working life as an apprentice electrician and when qualified joined Prestcold Northern as a refrigeration installation engineer. In 1979 Nationwide Refrigeration Wholesale (NRS) was born and Alan transferred to NRS as a Sales Engineer, quickly developing his career through branch and sales management.

A proud moment came in 1997 with the launch of his own wholesaling business, NRW, which quickly became a successful national player.

After selling the business, Alan joined Beijer Ref UK and Ireland as Commercial Director.

Speaking of his friend and colleague, John Billson, Managing Director of Beijer Ref UK & Ireland, said: "I have known Alan for many years and I have been both an employee and employer to him. He has stood firmly by my side assisting and supporting the decisions made to develop the business. I will be forever grateful to him for this.”
