Philip Sloper, the former managing director of refrigeration and air conditioning distributor Thermofrost Cryo, has died aged 70.
After reading for a degree in Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, Philip joined Delta Metals as a graduate trainee and was assigned to work at Delta Cryo Ltd, based in Birmingham. ln 1982 the company was acquired by United Termofrost and merged into a single company renamed Thermofrost Cryo Ltd.
At that time Philip became marketing director of the new company. He performed the role with distinction and oversaw continual growth in the firm, eventually becoming managing director in 2004. He retired from the company in 2014.
Outside work, Philip was a keen windsurfer in his younger years and had a lifelong interest in classic cars. His pride and joy was a 1970s Porsche 911, which he purchased and restored to pristine condition. Together with his wife, Wendy, he enjoyed classic car rallies, motorsport events and classic touring, visiting numerous countries along the way.
In a statement, the company said: "Thermofrost Cryo benefitted greatly from Philip’s vast industry knowledge, forensic attention to detail and impressive work rate. He retired from the company after 35 years of service, having become a well- known and respected leader in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry. Philip will be greatly missed by family, friends and colleagues.''
Any donations in memory of Philip would be welcomed at the Motor Neurone Disease Association and/or the Mary Stevens Hospice.
