Green Point UK, BITZER’s specialist compressor remanufacturing arm, has introduced a series of services to enhance its support for customers. These include turnkey logistics support for managing compressor removal and replacement, a rapid turnaround compressor exchange service, offsite preventive maintenance, and specialist onsite commissioning support. |
Logistics support covers a full compressor “lift and shift” service by a dedicated Green Point team, which manages all aspects of removal and replacement with as-new remanufactured exchange compressor/s. The specialist team can manage all aspects of complex compressor handling operations, from restricted-access plant rooms in deep basements to the top of multi-storey buildings.
Once the refrigeration contractor has disconnected the compressor from the refrigeration and power circuit and removed all refrigerant, the Green Point team takes over, first de-mounting the control and power box and releasing the compressor for lifting out of the rack.
The procedure, which covers compressors weighing up to 1300kg, takes account of entry and exit points, weight and height restrictions, and manoeuvrability and accessibility within and out of the building.
Critical applications
According to compressor size and location, Green Point provides all lifting equipment, ranging from standard block-and-tackle to a full-sized crane and crew for roof-top access. In the second stage, the process is reversed for lifting and positioning the replacement exchange compressor into position. The whole process is completed in a day’s site visit.
Finally, the refrigeration contractor connects the replacement compressor to the system pipework and power supply, re-charges it with refrigerant and reinitialises the system.
Green Point’s quick turnaround compressor exchange service gives same-day or next-day access to like-for-like replacement compressors, fully remanufactured and tested to as-new standard.
The company keeps a stock of hundreds of the most popular models and sizes of remanufactured BITZER units at its Milton Keynes headquarters. They can be called on at a moment’s notice for delivery anywhere in the UK. Damaged or worn compressors are returned to Green Point, remanufactured and tested according to the company’s strict protocol, and added to base stock for immediate future call-off as needed.
Green Point’s preventive offsite maintenance service covers scheduled proactive replacement of hard-running compressors in critical applications, such as process cooling and food storage, to pre-empt problems or potential breakdown.
Planned approach
Will Pribyl, Green Point UK’s general manager, says: “Refrigeration systems in some applications are mission-critical, due to the high value of the products or processes involved, and it is vital to maintain continuity of cooling. We now provide preventive offsite maintenance in these critical applications, to ensure hard-working compressors are kept in top condition, by replacing them after an agreed number of run-hours or when performance analysis indicates the beginnings of wear.
“Such a planned approach gives the end user total peace of mind, and can save thousands of pounds on lost production or product spoilage due to loss of cooling resulting from unexpected breakdown.”
Green Point’s new onsite commissioning support service for installers provides specialist technical back-up to ensure projects are delivered seamlessly and successfully. It includes expert support with control system set-up and integration with existing onsite control and monitoring systems.
Will Pribyl added: “The purpose in launching these new services is to help support our customers and ensure their hard-working refrigeration systems remain in peak working condition at all times. Rather than duplicating work currently carried out by contractors, it augments this by giving engineers access to the deep technical knowledge and experience of the global Green Point and BITZER networks, giving them an edge in the market and enabling them to serve their own customers even more effectively.”
